'ChkRootKit_MacOSX' is a free tool that can detect some kind of malicious applications.

This application is just a front-end for a tool named chktoorkit. chkrootkit was designed for UNIX-like operating systems, so it also runs under Mac OS X. The original application is a CLI (Command Line Interface).

ChkRootKit_MacOSX can detect various rootkits, worms, and LKMs that can hide into your system. The program's speed depends on the processing power of your computer. In my case, it was quite fast.

The installer of this program can compile the source code if the gcc compiler is installed on your Mac, otherwise it can install its own pre-compiled binary executable. The binaries include both versions for PowerPC and Intel powered machines.

Pluses: It has the capability to find various malicious applications on your system.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: Since the Internet is not a safe place, it won't hurt to scan your computer from time to time.
